The children are given an overhead and, when asked, are instructed to perform strokes that at first glance seem completely nonsensical: deliberately hitting the ball into the net, against the wall, or smashing it onto the floor in front of them. This teaches them where to hit the ball and how the racket face must be positioned in order to accomplish these tasks. As a result, this differentiation teaches them the optimal contact point and racket position for the correct overhead.
