This partner exercise, in which children roll, throw and pass at the same time, specifically promotes coordination, reaction and teamwork.
This is how it works:
Here, two different actions are coordinated at the same time. Two children stand opposite each other at a marked point (red marker).
- The person at the back rolls the ball to the other person, while the person in front throws a ball at the same time. After three repetitions, they swap.
- One player makes a ground pass to the partner, the other catches.
Learning objectives:
- Coordination: Performing different movements simultaneously trains the interaction of hand and eye.
- Attention & reaction: The children have to throw as well as catch – and watch their opponent closely.
- Teamwork: The exercise only works with mutual coordination and trust.
- Body tension and sense of movement: rolling and throwing strengthens motor awareness.
Coaching Keys:
- Clearly assign the pairs and ensure a calm starting position.
- Explain clearly who is rolling and who is throwing – using color codes or assigning names if necessary.
- Ensure a smooth rolling motion and targeted throwing.
- Change positions after three rounds.
- Include a feedback round: “What was more difficult – rolling or throwing?”
