The main goal when teaching beginners is to have them rally with each other as soon as possible. The first rallies involve one tossing and the other hitting the ball back with control. This can only work when both the tosser and the hitter have clear targets. Fot the hiotter the target is the tosser. However, for the tosser the target has to be in front of the hitter and to the side. Establishing clear targets, like a ring or marked area, helps beginners understand where to toss balls so that their partners can hit it.
